Tweed Suit Care Guide

Tweed provides exceptional warmth, durability, and a rich, textured finish ideal for cooler weather. The tightly woven wool requires specific handling to maintain its rugged elegance. Proper tweed suit care preserves the natural fibers and the garment's heavy drape. Follow these steps to maintain the fit and appearance of your bespoke garments.

Everyday Care & Storage

  • Brush the fabric after every wear. Use a firm-bristled clothes brush to sweep away dust and dirt trapped within the textured weave.

  • Hang your jacket on a wide, contoured wooden hanger immediately after wearing to support the heavy tailored shoulders.

  • Hang the trousers by the hem using a clamp hanger. The natural weight of the tweed pulls out creases easily.

  • Use a garment steamer to relax persistent wrinkles and freshen the wool.

  • Never press a hot iron directly onto the fabric. If you must iron, use the steam setting and place a thick pressing cloth over the suit to prevent crushing the weave or creating a shine.

  • Allow the suit to rest in a well-ventilated space for at least 24 hours before storing it. Wool absorbs moisture and needs time to dry fully.

Cleaning

  • Take the garment to a professional dry cleaner only when it requires a deep refresh, typically once at the end of the season. Tweed naturally repels dirt and odors.

  • Spot clean minor spills immediately. Gently blot the area with a damp cloth. Never scrub, as this damages the complex weave and the natural wool fibers.

  • Do not machine wash your bespoke suit. Water immersion shrinks the wool, destroys the internal canvas, and ruins the tailored fit entirely.

2-Piece Suit (Jacket & Trousers)

  • Dry clean the jacket and trousers together every time. Cleaning the pieces together ensures the textured fabric ages uniformly and maintains a perfect color match.

3-Piece Suit (Jacket, Trousers & Waistcoat)

  • Air out the waistcoat thoroughly in a well-ventilated room after each wear. It sits closest to your body and absorbs the most heat and moisture.

  • Always dry clean the jacket, trousers, and waistcoat at the exact same time. Even if you skip wearing the waistcoat for a day, cleaning all three pieces together maintains identical color consistency across the entire suit.
